When the E Battery Runs Low
Every evening I plug my cell phone into the power source to recharge. We do the same with the cordless phone as well. If you don’t the little wonders die the next day.
There are days that the units simply die during the day after being used too much. That does happen – sometimes right in the middle of an important call.
My phones are not the only thing I have that needs recharging – my own battery is the same. You may call it “spirit” or “soul” – whatever – it is that special area that is down inside that runs out of “juice” sometimes even during the day! The discharge happens when too much is required of it – or there is a too great a drain on it. It can die during the day – just like the battery in our cell phones. And like the phone – it will likely happen when it is most needed!
I have labeled my inside battery the E Battery - “Encouragement Battery”. It encourages me to keep going and also provides a resource for others as well. Out of it comes a good supply of words and deeds that will keep me and others up and running well.
There is a problem however with this “Encouragement Battery”. It isn’t in the fine print but it is there. It will fail after constant use (and even abuse) but not tell you that it is done. There is no meter that shows on the outside when it is empty. The body has some reserve to go on without the “Encouragement Battery” being re-charged… but not for long.
What wears out the E Battery the fastest is a constant drawing on it by others outside of the individual battery owner's world. The need to show love and encouragement to others is all around. And once it is discovered that there is some one that cares – people with a need for the encouragement will begin arriving and asking.
Yesterday my E Battery ran out about the middle of the day. It was in need to a recharge. But instead through a series of rapid fire telephone calls from one individual that needed a huge amount of something that I was not able to give – IT WENT DEAD – right in the middle of a sentence. That was right in the middle of his fourth call to me about the same thing. I had it!
Yes, I snapped back to the individual with some words that were not so soft. I explained that he need not call again that night!
In my own restoration of the E Battery – I need to be alone. I sleep a lot and function little at those times. Yes, I get depressed as well – but can now recover better than before. Yes, I am normal and get down. Yes, I tend to bounce back quickly after a good sleep or time away.
The bigger question is how are you doing with it all. Ooops there I go trying to encourage again. Gotta watch that E Battery again.
Sorry – I can’t spend much more time today – I have some emails to deal with. Some people need some help and I am on my way now. See you tomorrow.
Oh by the way you may like to take a look at something entitled “Compassion Fatigue”. A Google Search yields about 1,010,000 results on this one. For your help I have placed this link below – where you can take a self test. Interesting to say the least.

Please Note: This self test is not saying that you are Compassion Fatigued –or that you are Burned Out – it is describing the RISK. I suggest it with some ligtness in spirit today.

Lamentations 3:22-24 (New International Version)
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."
