When He Comes Into The Room Everything Changes

When he comes into the room everyone looks his way. You can’t miss him. His laugh is infectious. Everything he does is a statement that he is there. He has a personality that is unusual. He is always smiling – well almost always…

His name is Dan. Yesterday I saw him at it again. Just walking into the foyer of the church caused a reaction. People that were speaking with each other turned and looked his way. He moved through the crowd of people with his hand out shaking hands with each person… then he would laugh deeply. You couldn’t miss him.

Some people are like that. They have something about them that just makes a statement when they come through the door. What an amazing quality to be given. I call it a “People Ability” or the PA Factor.

Last evening I ‘discovered’ another scripture that has hit home again. There it was the “People Ability” or PA Factor. It was designed by God himself – it is from God himself. That scripture is found in Psalm 29 – the whole Psalm. I have copied in the Psalm below for you to read.

This Psalm is so amazing – as it describes the Voice of God… and along with the Voice comes his presence. Along with this knowledge comes a desire to stop and Praise him. You just want to be in his presence. And being in his presence – everything changes.

WOW! What a difference that makes in all the yucky human things we have to do every day.

The man that I have pointed to, Dan, is a man that has been transformed by Spending Time In God’s Presence. That “STIGP” factor has made a huge difference in his life. Dan was a man, in his broken stage, that beat his wife and kids. He was horrible to live around or be with. In one remarkable time God stepped in and cleaned him up. God saved him from alcoholism and a tragic end that would have kept him in prison. Now today he has taken on the qualities of his Lord – a “People Ability” or PA Factor.

Dan is our Community Chaplain (on the right in the photo). And in God’s providence and guidance He has chosen Dan to work closely with men that are completely broken. These men are coming from Federal Prisons and need a PA Factor to get it right and rebuild their lives.

Oddly enough in our Peterborough situation Dan has been given a partner in his ministry – his name is Darrin G (on the left in the photo). When Darrin comes into the room the same thing happens – his laughter is infectious. When his laugh bubbles out everyone stops and grins. Now get Dan and Darrin together – WOW!

I know their stories today also... there are times that it is hard to go on...but they do.

If Dan and Darrin are reading this some day – “I just want to say thank you guys for being who you are!” And most of all Thank God for what he has done for these two – that in turn they are doing so much for so many.

By The Way - you can check out what Dan and Darrin do at http://www.ptbochaplaincy.org/

Psalm 29
A psalm of David.
1 Praise the Lord, you mighty angels.
Praise the Lord for his glory and strength.
2 Praise the Lord for the glory that belongs to him.
Worship the Lord because of his beauty and holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord is heard over the waters.
The God of glory thunders.
The Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful.
The voice of the Lord is majestic.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees.
The Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon into pieces.
6 He makes the mountains of Lebanon skip like a calf.
He makes Mount Hermon jump like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord strikes
with flashes of lightning.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert.
The Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord twists the oak trees.
It strips the forests bare.
And in his temple everyone cries out, "Glory!"
10 The Lord on his throne rules over the flood.
The Lord rules from his throne as King forever.
11 The Lord gives strength to his people.
The Lord blesses his people with peace.
