Does a Robin Ever Get Confused?
The snow that came last evening is about 2 inches deep. It is a fresh covering of white and cold snow. While shoveling this morning I could feel the cold on my bare hands. I reached down to brush some of the snow away – IT WAS COLD.
Yesterday some Robins showed up early. They are on their way back to their Canadian nesting grounds I guess. But if you can visualize this… a Robin up to his knees in snow and shivering you will understand the problem. These guys are a little too early.
A funny thought crossed my mind, and it is the form of a question, “Does a Robin ever get confused?” I mean they come back to the area that they are from and are ready to settle here again – but it snows. Do you think that they every scratch their heads and wonder why they followed the sense inside and why they are doing what they are doing? Something inside of them is driving them to get ready for the next step in their life – a new generation of little ones.
But then there is my life… and maybe yours… You and I did all that we could to follow the path that was before us. We were moved by the instinct that said do this or that. We felt very strongly that this is God’s will for us. And yet we arrive after the long flight through life with “snow up to our knees” when there should be no snow.
These are important junctures in our lives I believe. It is a time when the natural instinct to do what we should takes over and the apparent opposition or obstacles on the outside are just a little snow for now. God has a plan for us. God will lead us. Gad has led us up to now and will not stop. What a comfort to know this.
But I have to admit something, there are times that I get a whole lot confused and even frightened at times. Looking at the snow around my knees can be a little sobering to say the least.
The Robin knows something that I need to remember – the sunshine is coming to melt all the snow – soon. Below the snow there is a wealth of black soil and green grass. In that green grass especially are a wealth of earth worms that will be food for a King Robin and his little ones. There is hope.
Below my problems and past the frightening thoughts of the impossible – is God and all his hope and happiness. WOW what a thought that is for today.
I am joining you in prayer for what ever snow you face. Please let me know what you are facing and I will pray with you.
