Euphony vs Cacophony
Early this morning our home was surrounded by euphonious beings. Every bird in the country was greeting the sun and saying good bye to the moon. The joy being expressed was beyond words. The night had washed away the ridiculous of yesterday and the stupidity of human reactions and interactions. God provided a new melody this morning to let me know that it is okay and we can start again.
Life yesterday, for some, was anything but euphonious. In fact the exact opposite of words described their lives – cacophonious.
A young girl, only 10 years old, sat in a waiting room outside an office, while her parents inside fought a raging battle for her ownership. Her fate will be determined by people that don’t know her and discarded by people that do. That is a cacophonious life. At 10 she faces some bad sound for the next 50 to 60 year as her mind will keep the horror of not knowing what will happen to her.
Euphony and Cacophony – two very odd words.
Euphony is a soothing, pleasant sound.
Cacophony is harsh, discordant sound.
Oh how I wish that I had the baton that God does to raise the voices of these wonderful birds at moments like this for this young girl.
In the Bush…
A group of teens, in our area last week, decided to seek some new ‘melody’ in the bush near their home. They mixed the new drugs and more alcohol into the lives and a fight broke out. One of the boys is now in a regional hospital after being hit on the back of his head with a baseball bat. Speech is definitely a problem now. They are not sure he will live.
The sadness in the voice of the older man was very evident as he told of this young teen. He said with deep emotions, “Some one has to do something for these kids.” No it wasn’t in Toronto or the deeply troubled areas of a Metropolitan city – it happened in a small town near our community.
I need each morning and the freshness of a new day to keep a focus for life. I love mornings and all that they offer. Everything looks different.
A Pause Day…
Today I will listen to children, about grade 3 to 5, as they shuffle near me and ask questions. I am taking a wonderful day away to help kids dream. As one of my holidays, today I will take part in a local pioneer presentation. I will act out being a ‘wood carver’ that lived in the 1800s in rural Ontario. I will talk with kids – lots of kids. I will tickle their thoughts with good thoughts and funny stories. This is euphony of my life.
Someone asked me yesterday how I keep a balance in my life when I face so many deeply troubling situations. My answer was simple – a deep sense of purpose knowing this is what God wants for me and time away in my garage to be quiet and listen to the euphonious beings around me (and my eight track stereo).
Of tomorrow – I am never sure what will to take place. More life noise likely will be there. More stuff that is happening today will break out tomorrow. But before that happens there will be a tomorrow morning with its beautiful sound.
Thank you God… so much…. for the morning.

PS - the above Photo was taken looking east from our home as the birds greeted the morning.

Murray I love the picture, it is balanced and beautiful. I can almost hear the euphonious birds singing praises to their Master. There really is delight in a new morning and all the promises it holds for the day. It reminds me of the victorious hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness.
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Refrain
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Now that is euphonious.
