Timing Time for Yourself
Happy Birthday Murray!
I love it… a birthday party – just for me! WOWWee! Okay – Okay – I know that I am not a boy any longer – but a mature older man that has an image to keep up and guard…just so I can maintain the IMAGE of PASTOR… at least that is what they tell me.
Tonight I received an early Birthday present from my wife.. a huge dragon fly that I can fly and control to go where I want it to go. When my wife gave it to me at dinner… I was so ready to run out side and try it out. So I charged it a little and away I went.
My friend across the street had bought one as well…. So we intend to fly together. He is now retired with a little more time to fly than I do.
As the two of us talked about the kites, dragon flies and the techie stuff that we like so much… he wondered – why it was that just us… and not our wives that were interested in these marvelous machines? Why is it primarily men that like this stuff?
The answer may be – I hate shopping for clothes and ‘she’ loves it…. I don’t like shopping Malls and my wife loves them. But give me a good technical thing I can watch for hours.
The train display was a good example – my wife sat down while a poured over every inch of the tracks and the trains shown.
All I know is that we are really different after these many years of marriage – no we did not become like each other – in fact maybe we are less like we personally were than any thing else – poles apart.
Being different isn’t bad…if fact the space that we keep from each other is a help I am sure. We both need our space… lost of it.
One man I know retired from his management role at the large factory. He had been retired for about 3 months when I saw them again. She leaned closely to me and said in my ear…”Can you get him something to do OUT THERE? He is driving me crazy in the kitchen, in the family room and everywhere. For 35 years of his working career I have had the house to myself all day if I want it that way…now he follows me everywhere – advising me what to do and which way I should go next. Find him something to do or might commit MURDER – PLEASE?!”
She smiled sweetly – but then her eyes pleaded with me… “DO SOMETHING SOON – PULEASE – before I kill him dead?!”
Thank you to my wife Alida for my space. Thanks for so many years of loving me and letting me love you – by not being there… and for the space.
Now for younger couples that have the idea that they must be in each other’s face… I may shock you by saying this…leave him alone… let her be… find solace in the quietness of aloneness.
Jesus was perhaps the busiest man that I have ever read about. He picked 12 men that needed lots of training and teaching – yet they never seemed to get the main concept… then he did it all in three short years… launching a pilot project that would grow to be one of the Biggest Corporations in the world – with offices on almost every corner in some cities… with the clientele flooding into these offices often… on and on we can go with amazing results shown. Jesus was amazing!
His secret – every day he got alone… in a quiet place… to think…receive…contemplate…and reflect….
Alone is okay when we need it. You need it and so do I.
Now flying a kite with some one is a ball – but doing it alone is therapy.
Where and when is your quiet spot? How do you get a way?
