You Deserve A Break Today
Some of my friends are now planning their breaks for the winter ahead. I hear of trips south or to far away countries. The glow of their faces as they describe the great deals they have found and paid for is amazing. Amazing for sure but it produces a little envy when my next big job is to dig out a Snow Blower and get it ready for what is coming.
Now for some that read this in other warmer parts of our world you will not really understand the great Canadian winter schemes of keeping fit. There is the eternal sidewalk clearing and the forever driveway snow removal – just so you can get your automobile into the place where it is parked. We look ahead to holidays and the realities that winter is coming soon.
One of our famous fast food places had a jingle that went along with their advertisements… “You deserve a break today…”. By coming to eat at their place you were in fact getting away from the toils of cooking at home. Not quite like going to the South Seas – but it was a break.
God knew that I needed a break too. Yesterday it happened… I “YouTubed” myself to six different countries. It was an amazing journey last evening before going to bed.
For those that have joined into the Facebook generation – you will already know the deluge of “YouTube” stuff that you get. The giggles that come from watching weird videos of people doing strange stuff are amazing. The awe or winces in pure pain of seeing someone else fall down – is real. “YouTube” is a window to a world far away or right next door.
If you haven’t “YouTubed” yet – simply ask your browser to take you there. In one click a menu will be offered to let you start surfing their site. Typing almost anything into their search line will bring a host of beginning videos. Then clicking on the first video will then bring more offerings to watch afterwards. What a world awaits you…
Sorry about that problem…
I know for those that read this blog… the above description and the fact that you are on a dial up connection to the Internet frustration has just built up in you. I have done to you what others have done to me… taking this mini vacation with these small videos may not be possible with a slow connection area. That is like listening to someone tell about their planned Florida vacation while you are shoveling snow. Sorry about that…
My point today is not YouTube nor Facebook… it is the need to have a break. Lately I have gone deeper into a favorite old past time of reading. The material is a good variety and takes me further away than even YouTube will take me. It excites my imagination and stirs my soul. The words leap from the pages and stroke my mind deeply.
Now reading and YouTube and Facebook may not be your cup of tea to get away. But you do need a break.
I tried one more break time this week that helped too. That was a short walk outside. The world that waited me was amazing. Then I just stood to watch the insane squirrels chase each other around our tree. What a delight to see what was so close to me.
Shoveling will not be that bad. Snow blowing will be okay too. I just need a break today.
Reading another favorite two books of mine this past week I came to the stories about famous and infamous Kings of long ago. Then again I read the whole story of two men that lived during this period of time – Elijah and Elisha. What amazing men to say the least. (If you want to read more of them online – see the references below).
My point today is simple… you deserve a break today – go for it. You will be amazed what it will do for you.
