What is Blogging All About
When I tell people that I “blog” almost everyday – there is a blank look on their face. Some will smirk and say some sly comment – others will want to know more. Still others gasp and utter words like, “Everyday?” (Having you read this – means that you already know what a blog is…)
What purpose is there in writing these words? The answer is it touches people and reaches them where no one has reached before. I have received replies and comments from around the world – though they will not always place a comment on a blog posting.
This weekend was different – Karly posted to the “Igniting Your Life” January 29, 2007 post (below). It seems that Karly has a great difficulty with Teen Challenge. She has pointed to other sites that rail on Teen Challenge and their methodology.
Blogging is like preaching a sermon on the Radio Program – or better yet like a Radio Talk Show. You never know who is listening and how close they are listening. You have no idea until they call in or write you a letter.
In the early days of posting on this Blog, February and March 2006 – over 200 posts ago, – I was learning lots. I experimented with all kinds of posts – most flowing out of the heart. At times we used it as a repository for Bible Study Notes. Other times it was a history lesson. And still other times it has been an update on prayer requests. A primary connection has been a support for families and friends as we have prayed through difficult times.
The passing of Pastor Hervey Shank, in February 2006, was one of the most difficult times in my life. Describing the tender times and moments that he shared with me was a help to many others. His family that was spread far and wide across this continent were connecting to the blog regularly.
Oh yes – like any talk show host will know – not everyone is thrilled with what you post. There have been strong reactions locally to one posting as dirty spiritual linen was aired from my very keyboard – and people reacted with fire. Others were disturbed that I would write about my friend Pastor Hervey. One thing for sure – they read it all and even passed copies to others.
A blog is bigger than a local community. It is world wide… that is why the Web address/name has the “www” – World Wide Web. People come from everywhere to read what is said.
Inclusion of certain words will get a flurry of responses from everywhere. Place words like “Jesus”, “Christ”, “Almighty God” or Holy Spirit in the article will not do much. Place words like “Gay Pride and the Church” will already have been picked up to see what the religious nut cases are saying against them. Try “Homosexuals and Hell” or “Cross Dressers heading to Hell” and you will get mail – and or comments.
Tell about a wonderful miracle of Jonah Van Spronsen and how he is alive today because God has a plan for his young life – the ripples will be in our community only.
Tell about Teen Challenge setting men free of addictions to drugs and alcohol but Prayer, Discipline and Structure… and I never thought that Karly would write – or even that Karly existed.
If Karly reads this far – Karly I am now praying for you and the work that you do – wherever in the USA you are located. Karly is in “communication and media” and writes well. God bless you Karly!
It is a new day to connect with a world that is reading and waiting to hear.
Some scripture that makes new sense today are….
Habbakuk 2:2 - The LORD's Answer (New International Version)
2 Then the LORD replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.”
Ephesians 3:9 (New International Version)
9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
Blogging for you…
