Kenya Airways Flight KQ 507 - We Remember
When the news came of the Kenya Airways aircraft that had disappeared in the Cameroon it shook both Alida and myself. As the photos came to describe the airline – it was exactly the same as the aircraft we had boarded (twice) while we there – just three weeks ago. The fact that a majority of our entire PAOC Missionary crew in Kenya had been on the same aircraft also rang clear in our minds – ‘What if it had happened to us?’ – were words that came to my mind again and again. The entire East Africa PAOC missions would have been struck a blow that could have decimated the entire ministry - let alone all their families.
Following our retreat in Mombasa, one of our PACO couples together with two young ladies had been traveling on another Kenya Airways flight that had experienced some grave problems with its entire navigational system. The pilot had maneuvered the aircraft all the way back while it tipped at about a 30 degree angle most of the way – no doubt he was forced to fly visually. As the story was told to us first hand by some of those on the flight they clearly thought that this might have been the end for their lives. Today they also must have been shaken as news has come about flight KQ 507.
Is the answer to travel by ground vehicle only? No – that can be even more dangerous as accounts are given of highway/roadway dangers - but in most cases it deosn't exist.
And further more Kenya Air Ways is one of the safest and best - "The Pride of Africa".
It brought back vivid memories of Thailand and the accounts that the missionaries shared with us while we were there over 20 years ago. The mission’s policy in most of the missions groups of Thailand clearly state that the entire missions staff cannot travel in the same vehicle at anyone time. When this information was shared with us it sounded odd. That was until we heard that an evangelical group of Missionaries had traveled together – all the men of that one organization – while heading to a conference up country. The large vehicle that they were in was crushed in a terrible head on collision and then a roll over. Every one of the men from that missions were killed. All were great leaders in their own world – and all had families. The mission was destroyed in one horrific moment as were the entire mission family.
I truly shuddered when I heard the reports from Kenya last few days.
The press release and the passenger list below brings the reality of this tragedy closer to home for me. As I slowly read and re-read the list over – there are almost 100 families that will never be the same again. At this point we are not sure if there has been a loss of life or not.
Will you join us in remembering these folks today?
For the families and friends of Flight KQ 507 - at Northview Pentecostal Church - we are praying for you. May God grant you his grace and love at this time.

1 Comments:
This crash is such a tragedy, so many lives lost, so many families devastated. We hear of tragedy after tragedy these days and we can almost become complacent about them, but reading the list of those who lost their lives makes it real. Oh, God help those who are left behind and thank you for protecting Murray and Alida, especially when they rode that very same plane.
