Potential Beyond Our Dreams
Last evening I had the world come to visit at my home. There were Doctors, Lawyers, CEOs of major corporations and perhaps even a minister or two. The folks that came were all dressed in bright and unusual costumes. They also were smaller versions of their adult counter part.
One major point that struck me so profoundly – they all knew me. In fact over 75% of the group comes each year to my home. Their parents come with them and each speak to me. This is my community and I am their resident pastor and friend.
One dad asked me if I was still carving. Another grandpa came to see the new Bear that I had finished this past year. Other young couples that I had married in the past years came to say “hi”. Another couple that has been in contact each year, but not part of our church, drove across town to just to say hello.
At great risk of turning everyone off, Ministers are not suppose to take part in Halloween – right? I just heard some of hearty ‘amens’ in the crowd out there!
These are my friends and it was Halloween Night 2006. I reply with a hearty – “Hold on there… do you know your neighbours?”
My major goal in our community is to be a husband, father, and grandpa – and then a Pastor – that everyone knows and respects for what he believes – that being said... they all met a Christian last evening. Yes – I take part in giving our lots of good candies. It is my joy.
Last night was special – I was able to pray for and bless about 150 kids and their families as they came to my home. This year I took pictures of all of them. This collection of photos is pure joy. The collection is also a record of the potential beyond our dreams.
I am blessed.
I offer the following photos as a sample of my visitors last night. Pray for them with me and see the potential.
